Ponte Acquedotto Viadotto della Madonna della Stella
The Aqueduct and Viaduct Bridge of Madonna della Stella is a construction with a double row of arches, begun in 1743 and completed in 1778, which was financed by the Orsini Dukes.
It was designed as a viaduct to reach the Mariano della Madonna della Stella Sanctuary and as an aqueduct to provide the city with water originating from sources to the north of the city, at Sant’Angelo and San Giacomo, that are still active today.
Dramatically spanning the two sides of the steep valley, and allowing visitors to reach the archaeological and cave sites of Padreterno and Botromagno, the bridge has become a symbol of the city of Gravina.
